Rev. DR. Mahn San Si Htay 


Rev Dr Mahn San Si Htay was born on February 18, 1943, graduated from Rangoon Arts and Science University with the Bachelor of Arts. In 1972, he received the Bachelor of Religious Education degree from Myanmar Institute of Theology. He was honored by Myanmar Institute Theology with the Follow of Distinguished Christian Service in 2002.

 

Served as evangelist (1967-1970), traveling priest (1970-1972), parish priest (1972-1976), Principal of Holy Cross College (1976-1990), Assistant Bishop (1990-1992), General Secretary of Myanmar Council of Churches (1993-2001) and Archbishop of the Churches of the Province of Myanmar (2001-2008). He continues teaching part-time at Holy Cross College.

 

Acted as President, Myanmar Council of Churches, 2006-2008 and Bible Society of Myanmar.

 

As Principal, attended the General Assembly of the Association for Theological Education in South East Asia in 1981, meetings of the Council of Churches in East Asia in 2006 and 2007, the Anglican Constitutive Council in 1990 and 1993 and the Lambeth Conference in 1998.


His outstanding contribution to Christian life and witness in Myanmar is in the field of theological education as he planned and carried out the development of faculty, curriculum and networking for upgrading Holy Cross Collage to accreditation standards.

 

His leadership in the pastoral and denominational leadership as Archbishop involved all aspects of the     Church in renewal and partnership in mission. In the ecumenical movement in Myanmar his contribution to the unity of the churches especially with the Roman Catholic and evangelical churches, widening of partnership with ecumenical organizations for development and improving relationships with the State are to be noted.

 

He is married to Daw Rhody Yin Mya and they are the proud of Dr. Samuel San Myat Shwe, Dr. Saul Aung Myat Htay, Sra Paul Aung Myaing Htay and Sramu Mary Hnin Hnin Aye. They now reside at Bishop’s Home, 44 Pyay Road, Yangon.
