The Bible Ministry in Myanmar was started by the British and Foreign Bible Society in 1889. The revision of the first Burmese Bible as well as the new translation in other languages was carried out to meet the needs of the growing Christian population, especially among the ethnic minority people.
Due to the changed situation in Myanmar, mainly in polities the Bible ministry was reorganized and independent and autonomous National Bible Society was formed in 1964, known as the Bible Society of Myanmar (BSM). The BSM purely under the leadership national church leaders continues the Bible ministry as before and also launched the new translations in common languages, new versions for some languages and for some languages is the first ever translation.
The United Bible Society has 137 members, of which one is the Bible Society of Myanmar.
