Bible Society Annual Report 2002:

The launch of the Akha Bible was one of the high points of the Bible Society’s year. The Akha people, a minority group in Myanmar, now have the entire Bible in their own language for the first time. Another significant publication was the Myanmar Common Language New Testament with Psalms and Proverbs, which was well received by church ministers, evangelists, and the general public.

In addition to our usual Christmas and Easter Selections, we produced two Selections for non-Christians entitled Two Ways and The Answer. Both are in great demand by churches, Christian organisations and para-church groups who use them to support evangelism programs.

Our activities during the year included special worship programs, Bible competitions, seminars, and fundraising events. A special event for young people was held in August and attracted over 1,000 people. A song, The Bible which Liberates, was composed especially for this event by a youth leader, with the musical arrangement by well-known Christian musicians.

Projects funded by Opportunity 21 have improved the quality and quantity of the Bible Society’s production and distribution during the year. Our van, which is funded by O-21, enabled us to visit many different locations to distribute Bibles, hold workshops and to promote our work.

The support we receive from church leaders continues to grow and contributions from churches, Christian organisations and individuals have increased significantly.

The Rev Saw Mar Gay Gyi, General Secretary
