Rev Khoi Lam Thang, the Translation Officer (TO) went to Kalaymyo, Tamu and Hakha, from October 23, to November 24, 2005. It was a fruitful trip toward related translation projects.
1. Tedim Study Bible Checking
He had a five days translation checking of Tedim Study Bible on the book of Romans, and finished. He personally visited to Rev Cin Khaw Lian (newly appointed the translator) to encourage and advise for better improvement. In spite of his tight schedule in the church, he had translated the book of Corinthians and Hebrews and they are ready for checking.
2. Zo New Testament Checking
The TO spent another four days to check the Book of Gospel according to Luke in Zo. It has been advised to add Psalms and Proverbs to the current project. The translation committee has agreed and targeted to finish by the end of this year. The committee is happy and eager to have New Testament in their language printed and published soon.
3. Falam Study Bible checking
There was one day checking session for the Falam Study Bible. The remaining part of the book of Revelation was checked and finished. TO is proud to report that the Falam Study Bible translation checking of New Testament has been done this time. Rev Edward Hlawn Piang, the translator is keying in all the manuscripts and doing corrections by himself.
4. Trip to Tamu concerning Kuki and Mizo Bible
TO also went up to Tamu to arrange the delivery of Kuki and Mizo Bibles. He met with Rev Bel Kho Thang (Kuki Pastor of Bethel Baptist Church) and Rev Laichunga (Mizo speaker and District Chairman of Upper Methodist) respectively. Those books are expected to receive before Christmas.
5. Survey trip for Zotung projects
Having conscious about the important steps in Publishing Process Management (PPM), the committee has decided to have field survey before launching the requested Zotung projects such as Literacy Promotion and Old Testament Translation. To implement this survey;
1. TO had privilege to meet the Zotung community at Kalaymyo
This group identified themselves as the Diaspora Zotung. They recently moved down from the Zotung villages in Chin State. A Zotung Baptist Church was formed by more than 40 families last April 2005. Rev Lian Maung serves as Pastor and Rev Kaw Kung (Zotung New Testament translator) was one of the church members. The TO had fruitful discussion with them for twice and
distributed survey questionnaires. They were happy to answer and much important information from this community received.
2. TO also arranged to reach to Rezua which is the capital of Zotung people but failed
He arrived at Hakha on November 12, 2005 to go as far as to Rezua for survey trip. Unfortunately, the road condition and political situation was unfavorable for traveling. Therefore, he finally decided not to go to Rezua. But God is so good for him in making possible to arrange a meeting with the following Zotung leaders:
1. Rev Peng Shwe (ZBA Chairman)
2. Rev Peter Nay Maung (ZBA General Secretary)
3. Pastor Talita Cumi (ZBA Women Secretary)
4. Pastor Khin Ma Myint (ZBA CE Secretary)
5. Pastor Par Iang (Aika Women Secretary) and
6. U Ni Za Mung (Nizy Magazine editor)
They had a long discussion on the necessity and current situation of the proposed projects. Survey questionnaires were sent to Rezua through the General Secretary. It is anticipated that the current picture of the Zotung people can be reported by the end of January, 2006.
6. Meeting with CACC leaders at Hakha Literacy Project
TO had a chance to meet with the Hakha literacy project committee which is under the Chin Association for Christian Communication (CACC), on Sunday November 13, 2005, The committee members presented at the meeting were:
1. Rev David Shwe (General Secretary of CACC)
2. Pu Siang Uk
3. Pu Hrang Tiam and
4. Saya Tluang Kio
He advised to have more sustainable learning and upgraded text book for Hakha literature.
7. Meeting with Ngawn Bible Translation Committee
On the way back from Hakha, he stopped over night at Falam and met the Ngawn Bible Translation Committee led by Rev Bawi Thian Ting the translator. They shared about their eagerness to have the Ngawn New Testament, Psalms and Proverbs very soon published in Myanmar.
8. Meeting with Zaniat Bible Translation Coordinator
He also met Rev San Cung at Falam for a short time. Rev San Cung said that "the brief preface for Zaniat New Testament" will be sent soon. The committee decided not to attach the extra Biblical materials such as wordlist, Biblical chronology and Map in their New Testament this time.
9. Meeting with Hawa Naga leader Sayakyi Than Aung
TO met with Sayakyi Than Aung, an ex-chairman of Forming Naga Common Language who recently transferred from Khamti to Kalaymyo as the Headmaster of Middle School. They discussed some detail about future Hawa Naga survey and inquired a lot of valuable information.
